GENERAL FOCUS AND TOPICS FOR EACH GRADE LEVEL
CLASS SCHEDULE 2008-2009
Fees Fees are $35 per student, with a maximum of $105 per family. Payment arragements can be made, if needed, by contacting Jeri Sutter or Fr. Jim.
First Reconciliation and First Eucharist The reception of the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist are an important part of your child’s initiation into the Catholic Church. These are not cultural “milestones” for your child, but beautiful expressions of faith, and they should not be entered into routinely. Your participation as a parent or guardian is of special importance in helping to prepare your child to receive these sacraments, and in continuing your child’s involvement in future faith formation. Sacrament Preparation Fee for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist $20 per sacrament.

St. Mary Portage Faith Formation High School Mini Course Program Contact: Brenda Collins bcollins@stmaryotic.com
General Information The High School Mini Courses consist of seven courses. These courses will be offered on Sunday and Wednesday nights, at varying times during the year. Students have the choice of time and order (with the exception of Creed I & II), but are required to complete all 7 courses before beginning Sacrament preparation for Confirmation.
Each course is 4-6 weeks long, 1.5 hours each week. This is a total of 52.5 hours over the next 1-3 years. There is no rush to complete these courses in one year; you may take them slowly over the next 3 years as they fit into your schedule. Freshman may only take up to four courses their first year.
MINI COURSE LIST WITH DESCRIPTIONS
Registration and Enrollment Upon entering the high school mini course program you will need to register your student, and update that information at the beginning of each new school year, however, once your student is registered you will need to enroll your student for each individual course that they wish to sign up for. Please return course registration information to the Parish Center or email Brenda Collins by the given deadline.
If your student is not enrolled by the given deadline for each course, they will have to wait until the course is offered again to join. Each one of the seven courses is offered at least twice a year, and can be taken in any order you wish. (With the exception of Creed I & II) No phone registrations please!
Class size has been limited to 16 students per course. It is first come, first serve. Once a course is full, you will be asked to wait until that course is offered again to enroll. There is also a class size minimum of 4 students per course.

Fees For incoming students, the fee is $85 per student. ($250 maximum per family) This flat rate fee covers all seven courses that will be taken over the next 2-3 years. Included in this fee, students will receive The Catholic Youth Bible and The Catholic Faith Handbook.
Attendance Requirements Regular attendance for religious education is essential. This implies coming to the first class, arriving on time, attending the full hour and a half, and participating and cooperating with the catechists.
Just as it is essential to come to practice when competing in a sport, so it is essential for our spiritual well being to faithfully attend Religious Education class. If an absence should occur due to illness or family emergency, please notify the Youth Minister by calling 742-6998 ext. 17 or bcollins@stmaryotic.com. If you do miss a class you will be given make-up work. If you miss more than one class you will be asked to take the course at a later time.
High School Community Service Service involvement is expected of students who plan to be confirmed. Students are allowed to choose their own form of involvement, and are encouraged to begin their community service work starting their freshmen year and continuing throughout their high school years. Once a student has completed a service opportunity there is a service evaluation form that needs to be filled out and turned in.

St. Mary Portage Faith Formation Confirmation Program Contact: Brenda Collins bcollins@stmaryotic.com
Confirmation Information Once
all seven high school courses have been completed then students may
begin the Sacrament preparation for Confirmation. The confirmation
program is designed specifically for the preparation of receiving the
Sacrament of Confirmation. Confirmation shouldn’t be confused with
“graduation”, the sucessful completion of a program of study. As
Christians, we never graduate from exploring our faith. Confirmation is
a sacrament in which, through the laying on of the bishop's hands,
prayer, and anointing, those who have been baptized are strengthened by
the Holy Spirit so that they may firmly profess their faith and
sincerely live up to it.
Fees For students enrolled in the Confirmation program, the fee is $25 per student. Each student will receive and use the Have Faith Candidate Resource Book.
